I have just sold my J reg 90 Defender (sad times) and bought a half share with my son in a 110 P Reg. The 110 has been raised a couple of inches and has a roof rack and will need to live outside as my garage is too low. Has anyone got any good suggestions for outdoor covers? I was thinking of something more robust than the covers I have found so far on the lovely interweb.

Many thanks

You can get some heavy duty caravan covers, designed for winter storage. I would look at one of them. They have straps for securing to the vehicle too.

We have recently got a couple from a mob called Stormforce, they are not cheap but are good quality.
They do many different types. They have straps to go underneath and extra eyelet holes for more tie down or to stake down to the ground(maybe). We have 1 for the 90 and 1 for the L322 different sizes but both reach down past the bumpers when fitted
They work for us.

Thank you for all suggestions I will make a few enquiries and find something that suits. I also wondered if there was part of this site that covers Land Rovers decked out for camping, as our latest addition is. I will post a new thread and see if anyone responds.

Many thanks again

So that maybe a bit extreme for what your looking for. But we are all up for somebody doing what they want to their Landy don’t be put off.
There are quite a few threads on here about “mild camper mods” and what you can achieve.
Good luck and plenty of pics is always great :):)

Thank you. I will have a look for 'mild camper mods'. Is that on the general 90/110 bit? She has had quite a lot done already and there is plenty of enthusiasm for our new addition. UK camping is in the diary as soon as I sort one or two things out - like how to accomodate the dogs without wrecking the inside.

I had sleepless nights over selling my J reg 90 last year (Luscious - I sold her to the farmer next door and I am not sure he could quite believe her name), and it is really good to have a Landy back in the fold.

Thank you for your encouragement - this site is quite scary if you know very little.

I will post pictures when I get a min :)

I've only experience of using cheap tarps to cover my landy. Based on that my advice would be to put pipe insulation or similar on the corners, as the constant rubbing, due to wind, wears them through on the corners. :(

Thank you. I have also been advised that flapping of the cover can damage the paint work. Not too much of a probem at the moment as the paint is not pristine but it is probably worth bearing in mind. o_O

The emphasis must be on the word 'HEAVY'! We found our motorhome cover far too heavy to get on and off even once a year! They are so big they are cumbersome to handle.

Why do you need to cover it? Are you not going to drive it for months at a time?

Could you build an awning to park it under?

Will be fine outside, just wash it semi regularly

Yes, I wondered about the whole covering thing. I never covered my J reg Defender and she seemed to be fine. However, I only own 50% of this one with my son and he seemed to be concerned about her standing outside. I did wonder if covering leads to water being trapped under the cover. There is also a security side to things but I am not sure how much covering helps that.

I have found all the comments v useful and have relayed them to offspring. Thank you all
