met up with a guy today offroad he had a viitara that was runnin anaconda tyres..i have insa turbo mountain 235/85/16 on mine which i thought wernt to bad, that was untill i couldnt get up the big mud hill even in low range and diff lock,he ploughed up it with no probs and even come down the real extreme middle section which you have to be well brave to do..he spent the rest of the morn in 2 wheel drive and i was in difflock high range most of the time..i think i need some new mud tyres so hers the question what ones and what size?

ok so having a look around whats the differnece in tyres that are 31/10.50/15?..obviously mine are 235/85/16 so the others are an inch smaller on the rims but how do they compare in size i like the lift the 85 profile gives the landy but dont want to cause problems with tyres catching..i have however orderd the 2" spacer lift kit

The 31/10.50/15 means they are 31"diameter/10.50" wide. The rim size doesn't make any difference to the overall diameter of the tyre. 235/85/16 means the tyre is 235mm wide and the height of the tyre is 85% of 235mm you then times this by 2 and then add the diameter of the rim (16") to arrive at the overall size of the tyre. So to recap the formulae is (235/100) x 85 x 2 /25.4 (to convert mm to inches) +16

You also have to take in to account the fact that a Vit weighs half of what a disco weighs and so has a much better power to weight ratio.

 yes it does - a 16" rim will add another 1" to the overall diameter, compared with a 15".
it wont make any difference to the tyre wall height tho.

Ah! - just realised - yo comment referred to 31" tyres.

hee hee - yu saw my amendment then, Pikey :D

ere are yu sayin a Vitara is betterer than a 90 orf road? Sacriledge!

Still almost twice the weight of a Vitara though.

Depends on experience too. An experienced off driver running on near slicks can often out perform an inexperienced driver with big knobblies. Big knobblies aint no good without the knowledge to use em.

Just out of curiosity, does the Vit have LSD's? and has anyone here got diff lockers or LSD's installed on there landy?

I had front & rear lockers under my rangie which made it pretty well unstoppable,as soon as i get of my arse they are going in the county. Your tyres are approx 32.5" diametre. If you can get them over there & they dont break the pigyy bank i'd recommend 32x10.5-16 simex centrepede. They're actually a smidge over 33" diameter & 11 inches wide, fit your standard rims and hard to beat in all conditions.
