Hi there. I recently joined the forum and want to introduce myself . .
My name is Lambert and live about an hours drive from Johannesburg.

We have this terrible winter with lows of 2`C and max of 20`C and the sun is shining every day the whole day - yes we are cold!

I have a 2001 Disco 2 td5 and recently bought a 2005 Freelander 1 td4. None of them have any rust and is in good general condition.

I enjoy the info/banter on this forum and hope with time I'll be able to give advise from experience.

Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum. 06 Range Rover (Full Fat)/02 Freelander owner over here (SoCal). And BTW,.....no rust Discos are abundant in this state! My wife was on the fence between the Disco and Hippo, and decided she likes Hippo better. "It's the right size for her" (she's a short, adorable Munchkin kind a gal!).

We are in the Summer now, but our Winters are.........not there! The coldest it ever gets is upper 40s (and that's Farenheit). The hottest about 100F (in the mountains where we live).

I like your country BTW, and have some mates in Cape Town (hard partying/drinking bunch!). I visited RSA several times, way back in "good old times".

Welcome to the forum.

We imported a 1969 VW micro bus from your neck of the woods some ten years ago, it still rust free to this present day and what an investment it's been.

Good luck with the Freelander.

Went to Joburg once, luckily only for 1 night then flew out again still alive. Felt safer in Harare where I'd flown in from, but only really felt safe once the BA 747 had taken off bound for London!

Ditch the Freelander, you have better vision from a Disco and will see earlier when your going to be ambushed at the lights.

Yeah but the freelander handles better to get away from the ambushers...

I drove a '95 Caravelle (345K km and also no rust)and swopped it for my Disco. Our weather is quite dry here hence no rust on our vehicles

Here in the rural area's it is a lot safer and we don't live in fear as in Joburg.

The Hippo is actually for my wife - she loves it! This forum is one of a few that gives advice on the Freelanders as they don't have a good rep here.
