Hi All,

Hoping that you guys may know the cause of my clunk, on my 2004 Freelander V6.

The noise is a real loud single 'clunk', it is most definitely coming from the drivers side front. The noise happens when you have turned right and back left again mostly. It doesnt make the noise if you were to turn the steering wheel when standing still, so its difficult to trace.

I have replaced the antil roll bar links, anti roll bar rubbers, lower suspension arm, the rear suspension arm housing and the noise still persists. I am thinking the noise may be caused by a dodgy top mount. There is no cracking to the spring and it appears to be seated correctly.

I am tempted to just buy a second hand complete strut and just swap it out.. but dont really want to buy untested second hand parts.

Any ideas please?

Ooohhh, the amount of times Ive said this.
Top mount, mines been doing it for years, but I'm to sodding lazy to replace it;)

Ok, that's the main culprit out of the way.
What you need to remember is the noise is alot louder in the car than out. So tends to sound alot worse than it is. Also makes finding the culprit a right pain.
Have a good inspection of your track rod ends. Also Jack the front up and waggle anything you can get your hands on.
If you do decide to swap the strut, do both sides.
Someone else may have another idea.

I have a couple of noises from the front suspension, somewhere. I get a quiet knock over small bumps from the front right, but not if I brake.
I also get much louder poing noise if I give the front axle some articulation. This sounds like a sping ponging when it moves. This sound also happens if I do a fast left hand corner. Both are under investigation at the moment.

I had a similar clunk, replaced both lower arms and now it is much better, I think it's the top mounts left to replace, but, since you have gone that far, I'd say check lower arms

Turned out to be the crap Bearmach droplinks even though I had replaced them two months earlier. This is the third time I have had problems with their ****e products.

DO NOT BUY BEARMACH!
