I bought a 1989 90 a few years ago which had a after market third party steering wheel. I am trying to fit an original LR steering wheel which I bought off eBay. I've searched countless forum messages on the subject and can only conclude that the previous owner has removed the orginal boss (or whatever it is called) and all the forum entries I can find are about how to fit a nonLR steering wheel rather than putting an original one back on. When I have removed the after market steering wheel there is just a flat bolt on the end (see picture). Help please!

Remove the nut and the silver collar from the steering column and you should see the splines - fit your steering wheel on to the splines on the column and put the nut on ;)

Thanks to you both for the quick reply. I've taken off the nut and can see the spines but the collar will not budge at all. There's absolutely no give or sign it will come off at all and there's nothing to get any leverage off. Any ideas?

Easiest thing in the world to make & use.

A flat piece of bar with two holes in to line up with the threaded holes in the boss. Remove the column nut and place the plate across the boss, screw two M6 bolts into the boss and as the plate is pulled down onto the top of the column it will pull the boss off the splines.
A different variation on the same theme is to have a centre-bolt which tightens down on the column and then pulls the boss off, the only difference is that on the simpler version the two M6 bolts being tightened simultaneously carry out the same job as the centre-bolt.
