i'm running 265 75 16 insa traction tracks and they are brilliant, i spent a while researching before i got mine and i'm pretty sure that the traction tracks are slightly better all around than the dakars. i'd recommend them

I got a quote off paddocks b4 for insa turbo dakar on steels, they offered to balance when they seen what i was orderin

also you could try these
John Craddock LTD - 265/75R16 COOPER DISCOVERER S/T FITTED WITH SILVER MODS SET OF 4 INC DELIVERY TO THE UK MAINLAND. SUITABLE FOR L/ROVER 90/110. - APD0006

They look great, actually - hadn't considered Cooper tyres.

Yeah, they're a hell of a lot cheaper than the other brands, for the price of 4 General AT2s, I could get 6 Insa Turbos!

Think I'm gonna sleep on it and decide tomorrow. Gonna read some reviews and try to find the best deal.

Cheers all will let you know how I get on :D

You gotta decide if you want ATs or MTs - I thought the Insa Turbos looked great, but in reality I do most of my miles on the road and so in the end went for the Grabbers.

Morning!

I had exactly the same problem with my 110 a few months ago

2" lift and the standard 235/85 x 16 just looked stupid, ended up getting some 265/75 x 16 Cooper ST's from craddocks on black modulars and I'm well happy. They work realy well off & on road, look good and most of all don't deafen you when you are sat on the motorway :)

Yeah, I was only looking at the Dakars since they don't look very aggressive at all compared with other mud tyres. I'm pretty much decided on A/T tyres now. :)

That looks purfec.

One final question -- if I buy 4 wheels and tyres on steel rims, will I be able to safely use my original 7.50 r16 wheels and tyres as spares? Because 2 of my current tyres are almost brand new... if they were the same rotating circumference as the new ones, they'd work OK as spares, right?

if you keep to the 235/85 or 265/75 then they should be roughly the same diameter and should be enough to get you to a repair shop without damage.

Nope but watch this space... have been waiting for ages for parts to get the old girl running. I thought she would be running by now, didn't want to spend any more cash until I could be sure she will go.

Hi mate .

Give mark sowden a ring 01132 566606 or e mail sales@sowdentyres.co.uk and let him know what size you are after then he can see if they are in stock and give you good price.

Just to let you know at last we have the Lions 265/75/16(same copy as the Insa turbo special track and the Simex) £77 each. price has the VAT and Delivery included.

Well, we're going to Morocco for a month starting at the beginning of September (hopefully), and my 110's current suspension is a bit tired. I wouldn't want to drive it fully loaded over Moroccan rocky terrain with its current suspension. I think a 2" lift will give us better ground clearance for the sump, steering and fuel tank, and I can also specify a medium or heavy duty kit to bear the load better.

Ground Clearence in Morocco is not an issue. you would be better spending your money on Diff guards (if you dont have any). I agree, tired springs is not a good idea.

Me shocks are a bit leaky anorl. I would go for a standard height kit if I could find one that is 'medium duty' - I fear that standard will be too soft, where heavy duty I know is too hard from experience.

Well, I've ordered 'em now.

In the end, I cheaped out and went for Runway Enduro 265/75/16 AT. I almost went for BFG ATs, but chose not to for a number of reasons. Firstly the price, they were literally twice the price of the Runways, so where I would only have been able to afford 4 BFG tires, I could afford to buy 6 Runways (2 spares) and have enough left over for 6 brand new black modular steelies, fitted and balanced.

Another reason I chose the cheapies is that no tire, not even the mighty BFG ATs, are immune to being torn or split or ruined by sharp rocks, nails, etc - I know that BFG last the longest in terms of miles, but I figured I don't do many miles (7-8000 a year) and that the tires were more likely to be damaged than to wear out.

I read a few reviews of the Enduros, and people seemed to be in general very pleased with them, especially for the price. When I've fitted them I'll take some piccies, and once I've done a few miles on them I'll let everyone know what I think of them :)

Wheels arrived today and I've fitted them :D:D:D:D:D
Managed to bend my wheel brace though, some ape had way over torqued the nuts and then slapped some horrible rubbery paint all over them...

Such a huge improvement in both looks and driving feel though... I can't stop looking at it!

Will post some pics later today after my camera is charged :)

Hurry up! :D

I need some new wheels, Got General Grabbers (orginal tread pattern, like the BFG AT) in 31X10.50X15...... They are stupidly wide for the height (Same Diamiter as a 7.50... Just 3 Inches wider), On some gay eight spokes hand painted in silver with the white tyre writing on the outside :puke:

Look a bit better now i have used some black tyre paint to cover the white writing up (Yeah.. I could have swapped them round but, Tyre paint was cheaper, Easier and alot less effort :D)

I need some Insa Dakars in 265/65 on Black Mods  Just the pennys are a Issue as always..... Maybe i should put my Deestones on it :D

I like the white writing as long as it's not too brash. Camera is charged now, just waiting for a break in the weather :D
