Well I've taken the plunge and I'm getting my first Landrover....

I've been in and chatted to a local company that does ex MOD Landrovers and he had a 1991 ex red cross 110 which has been sat unused for a year or so. I've seen the results of another restoration he has done which is just spot on so I've basically said go for it. I've taken the before pictures already and it looks a bit of a mess at the moment but it will be as good as the one I've seen so I'm happy (I only pay on collection so I've nothing to loose).

Basically a 1991 110 which will have the 2.5 NA diesel engine, full service inc belts, bench seats, freshly resprays in the colour I want which is olive drab, 6m Tax, new MOT, registered. Plus change the NATO aux power output & tow bar for standard road versions.....

I'll probably be looking for a shed of an old disco 200/300TDI after that to stick the engine & power steering onto the Defender plus any other bits that should/would be better swapped..... I'll no doubt be posting lots of questions about that once I get there.

Ok here goes.....

Nice!

Will you be visiting to get any pics of the job, or will it be finished the next time you see it?

Other than the engine/steering implant, whats your plans once you get hold of it?

I'll be going past so often the neighbours will think I work there :D

I'll be getting plenty of pictures so that I can build up a scrap book.

Once it's built up and working I'm going to drive it for a while and then see what I fancy doing. I like the look of the spare wheel on the bonnet but the bloke who restores them says that its not very practical due to the weight but I'll see when I get it. The engine and powered steering is likely to be the first change but only if I think it needs it otherwise I'll leave the 2.5NA in there. The army were happy with that engine so it can't be all that bad!

He's already got some nice replacement doors for it so the worst part of the body has already got it's fix.

I'd get the engine changed now. A 200/300 engine will make it a pleasure to drive rather than the chore of the 2.5 n/a.

some one was talking about toll fees on a toll road. they said with the auto laser used to measure vehicle height for the right toll fee to be paid that the tyre on the hood buts it into the commercial height guide. If tyre wasn't on the hood they paid a lower fee. Just repeating what was said a week or 2 ago

Ah that almost makes sense now,

there is only 1 toll road in the uk and that is the M6toll and they base their charges on the height of the vehicle at the first axle but you still shouldn't pay a higher fee as the spare wheel is classed as an external load and not part of the vehicle.

The M6 have manned toll booths as well so that should stop the problem.

That was the 1 M6 toll road. and then someone put a link as how toll was determined

I haven't got the money now unfortunately but at least I'll have a decent strong body/chassis to work with.

Nice project that. I would keep the coulour sceme the same though as its different to all the nato green ones about.
