Hey guys,
Just ordered a new crank sensor. Unsure if I already install it and keep the old one as spare, or keep the new one in the trunk?

Cheers

Exactly my feelings too.

If the old one is suspect then replace and get rid of it.

If you wanted to keep one in the "trunk" (aka the boot) then you should have ordered two.

Well, isnt the crank sensor the only sensor that can leave the disco immobilized since the ecu doesn't use a default value when it's gone?

No idea but I do appreciate the logic now. But don't forget, a Land Rover can come up with many ways to disable itself!
I'd be tempted to leave well alone if it is working without any problems and only change it if it fails.

I understand that need for belt and braces. Yes it is the only sensor that stops it stone dead with no way round so having 'one in the boot' is piece of mind for me in the middle of nowhere. Don't change it if you don't have to, but make sure you know how to if it goes.
