I bit the bullet and treated the ‘PIA’ to some Optimill door hinges; beautifully machined gems they are too!
Anyway, I decided to get the Mudstuff heated mirror elements and today I came to fitting one of the doors and to fit the heated mirrors, trouble is I’m expected to take a drill to the hinges and put a hole through them for the mirror wire. I can’t bring myself to do this on such lovely (and very expensive) hinges!

I have read but don’t understand where others have taken the wire through the door seal upstand on the body?

Are there any other options anyone knows of or can explain the door seal one?
Failing that, I’ll just have to go without heated mirrors

Mudstuff don't drill a hole through the hinge, just the mirror arm and the Landy door. The cable tucks up the centre of the hinge. Looks like the Optimill ones have a big gap anorl, though I've never seen any first hand.

You’re right, I need to rephrase what I meant.
Mudstuff route the wire into a hole in the door between the two hinge bolt holes. The standard hinges are concave underneath which allow the wire to squeeze under the gap and then out through that hole. Optimill hinges are solid with no gaps underneath so there is no where for the wire to go.

What about drilling out the centre of one of the wing mirror bolts? It'll be pretty tight, I know.

Nice idea but the bolts are only M6 plus it’s so tight for room. I’ll think that through some more though. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll have to take another look at the hinge to mirror clearances when I’m next working on it to see if something is do-able.

I know Mick, I know. Don’t remind me! They do look and feel superb quality items though and I do like good quality stuff. That’s why I don’t want to put a mark on them.

Just looked them up,:eek::eek::eek::eek: how much?
Too much :p

Could you not run the wire inside the mirror arm then out underneath and through into the door? If you do it well you wouldn't see it unless you looked.
Personally I'd drill them.
Well personally I wouldn't buy heated mirrors we don't really get proper winters anymore not sure where you're from though maybe it's more justifiable

Id say they are more practical to most owners than say, snorkles, tree/rock sliders.;)
Very true! :p wouldn't waste on them either though! Unless i was going rock sliding haha
Snorkels are most amusing they actually make it harder to see and unless you live in a desert or trawl rivers I can't see a point :D
Heated windscreens are awesome though
