Hi i need a new battery having issues starting (jump starts fine)

whats better for me

i have 300tdi used everyday for work (about 4 miles) but i also have a whinch, extra spotlights, and sound system.

intial findings optima red top great starting battery (4.2 815cca) but because of the extras i have fitted would the yellow top be a better solution only down side being a drop in cca (765cca) and short millage for day to day used for recharge rate

thoughts please gents

Rich,

At the start of the winter my battery died and I replaced it with a red top after considering the same question as you. I run a 200tdi which has a 4 mile trip to work plus a bit extra some days. I also have a winch (occasional use), cb, stereo, hands free kit etc. I have had no issues and would suggest that the red top would suit you too. It was nice to go out in -6 this morning and it jumping straight into life!
In short, a red top would be ample in my opinion.
Hope this helps mate.

I got mine from Paddocks. £125 + vat and shipping, although I ordered it with other bits so the shipping cost was spread out more. They didnt have the top terminal version when I ordered so sent the side terminal one. Made no difference, it has top terminals and side terminals that you don't use, at no more cost.

cheers mate, Martin

Ok i'm not a gent but replying anyway, my otherhalf is in the same situation as yourself except he has added a night heater to his, he uses two optima yellow tops and they seem to do the job very nicely, one for all the toys and lights and one for the actual landy, and i only have one cause my 90 only has a few extras, and it's much better than the rubbish one that was fitted when i brought it, only thing is that they are a bit of a tight fit!!

cheers Martin Paddocks was cheaper.

ordered a red top in the end. fitted it yesturday now it a waiting game to see how this behaves over the next few days
