Defender 110

What are your thoughts.
my budget is 5k, so with that i could tidy it up a bit.
do you think its worth me driving 2 hours to view?

and from experience can anyone say if thats rust on the roof or just dirt?

my concern is the new aluminium floor.

and it coming with a new 12month mot. Makes me think the seller may be doing the MOT themselves.

thoughts?

witha good 300tdi and a good r380 that is a 1.5k motor... worth going to have a look at BUT, looking at the new tub floor, moss and lichen on the roof and general state of play around the girl, be sure to check out the chassis, doors, bulkhead and general steering components, also give the engine a good once over, look for signs of overheating as the 300tdis don`t like to get to get hot! other wise she looks a tidyish 110 though, pretty unmolested. loving the egr blank :D

Its from brum.
I know someone who bought a 110 from brum and the chassis was fillered:eek:
their dodgy in Brum:lol:

hey, just my opinion but the "rust" you speak of kind of looks the way mine did when i bought it after it lay in a feild for 8 months turned out to be just green sludge growing on it and a quick pressure wash fixed it, i would phone the guy and ask him what it is, if he is genuine then he should be honest with you

P.S. the bulkhead in the last photo looks as though it may have issues

I thought that.
And in picture 2, is it me or is there some exhaust missing?

just seen that rust on the bulkhead :s

my first opinion of the roof was moss/algae and general ****.
my big concern is just rust really.
doors, chasis and bulkhead.

whats the workload in changing bulkhead
or is a plate and weld job?

Depends where the rot is. you can patch, you can get repair panels.
changing bulkhead is quite a big job.

Another thing, I know someone who knows someone who does MOT's for 80quid.
You give them the vehicle details and you get an MOT.
Its probably not the case but its a thing I think of when looking at motors.

Roof will just be algae. Bulkhead (passenger side) worries, and from general interior conditon doesn't look like he's been loved

As the guys say, tread carefully. Crawl over the chassis with a large screwdriver looking for rot

Gearbox and engine should be ok, but again the lack of visible caring means this needs a good check as well

If you buy it, full service, timing belt and security should be your priorities IMO

What station house said, poor thing does look very unloved.:(

bit of google and detectiv work and ive found his ebay account
has alot of landrover parts for sale and a few cars seem to be sold too.
feedback seems good aswell.

the 110 is also on his ebay page which says rear crossmemeber good and new outriggers fitted, waxoyled aswell.

or is that to cover soemthing?

eBay Feedback profile for tailungneo

Nothing wrong with replacing the rear cross member and outriggers if they've been done well and all the old crap cut out - in fact I'd suggest most Landy's of an age will have had this done (mine has!)

Wouldn't worry too much about the waxoyl hiding much - even if he used the black stuff - the screw driver and ball pein hammer test all over the chassis will reveal what you need to know

At the risk of repeating, the bulkhead does need further investigation. Lift the footwell mats and see what you find, also have a good look (with a torch:D) both sides at the rear of the engine bay (especially down below the steering column/brake servo), and from underneath behind the front out riggers where you'll see the back of the footwell.

If he's not happy letting you crawl all over (and under) it - walk alway!

If it's structurally sound and the engine is OK, agree for the money you could make it into a nice Landy again.

Have fun Mike, report back, and remember in the heat of the moment there are others out there if this isn't the one

I struggled to walk away from some of the early ones I saw, but with hindsight glad I viewed a few before parting with the folding stuff!
