Next issue identified as error code P0480 Fan 1 Control Circuit - open circuit. OK so, what is an open circuit, is it a bad earth, if so where is Fan 1 control circuit earthed? If it's not a bad earth, what can it be? Both fans do work and with Hawkeye, can be turned on & off thru 'actuators'. The aircon fan works with the aircon turned on and stops when turned off. The radiator fan turns on when the engine temp gets to a high temperature. So views appreciated as to what P0480 'open circuit' means and how to fix.......

Open circuit means just that, it's open, as in not connected to anything. So either whatever is at the end of the open circuit isn't working, or there's a connection issue somewhere.

That's why I'm confused. I assume the fan control unit on 1 1.8 2005 FL1 is the bulky heatsink type unit on the near of the radiator fans (this has been replaced and the same error code is present). As both fans appear to work as designed, then can't see/understand the Fan 1 Control circuit being an open circuit. Also assume Fan 1 is the radiator and not the air-con fan....o_O

If the fan control module is driving the fans, then there's no issue. Which means it's possible it's an internal issue with the ECU, maybe with the circuit monitoring system.

My 1.8 with air con and both fans working correctly displays that fault code. No idea why but it works as it should.
