Hi my beloved RRC has developed a few problems but i shall start with the first only.

The old girl never fires up first time anymore. I have to turn her over a few times. Then turn ignition off and try again only then will she start and when she does start the engine will sometimes surge.

Any ideas?

Cheers Stu.

Oh aye and the fuel guage takes AGEs to show what its got in it. Sometimes when i fill the tank it wont show anything for a whie then will everso slowly go to thre quarters full.

Shes on lpg too. ( which has only recently stopped working ) ! When i try to change over i can hear the lpg solenoid clicking and the injectors clicking for about a second before it goes back onto petrol. Which, is costing me a smsll fortune!

I had a 'stalling and bad re-start' problem.
Turns out it was a split in the intake manifold gasket. Too much air rushing in.
Hopefully it's not that. Pain in the hole to sort.
According to my mechanic...

I had a hard to start problem a while back which was the intake manifold gasket. Although she was really really hard to start. I replaced this myself ( having never done it before) was a really rewarding job. I posted how to do it on here with pictures. So I don't think it'll be that well I blooming hope not anyway!!! Took the best part of two days. Although having done it once I think I could do it again in a day.

Respect, waterdude. I'd have loved to do it myself but will probably tackle something a little more straightforward first! I'll have a look at your how to.
Did you just get the RAVE CD spinning and go for it?

@ Reekie I just used a Haynes and some pages from inter web. It's not massively difficult. You just need to label EVERYTHING take photos every step of the way ( very useful ) and put everything you take off into little labeled ziplock bags. Oh yeah and when you get ****ed off just stop n go and have a cup of tea.

@Kev, had the stepper out and gave it a good clean. I'll try re tightening the manifold bolts under the plenum.

Took off plenum and trumpet housing to find coolant on valley gasket :(

Going to tighten up the manifold bolts ( hoping i can get to them without removing fuel rail) and hope that they just came loose.

Otherwise...........................

they are prone often to come loose ,when i fit new gasket i allways torque twice as first ones loosen by the time last are done as gasket compresses

Cheers, I'll definitely be taking the patented Waterdude approach from now on!
Your how-to is excellent, incidentally.
