Many years ago, back around 1990, I was working in Holland but kept on my UK registered car. At that time I called my insurance company, Norwich Union I think, and for a minimal feel I got a Green Card valid for a year which meant I didn’t have to worry how long I spent in each country.

Now we have got used to coming and going in Europe basically as we please without having to worry about our insurance policy, although most seem to restrict this to 90 or 180 days about of the UK (although how many people actually know this???).

Is it still possible to get a green card valid for a year which would cost less than the value of the car? My AF insurance is just coming up for renewal, so this may be a criteria for shopping around.

Cheers.

We get “Green cards” with all our vehicles. It doesn’t show any day limit (shows for length of insurance) and they come FOC, if you ask for them.

But I understand what you are asking as I remember the daily limit on green cards from UK insurance.

Look around, quick goggle look at HIC, no idea who they are but they seem to offer a full term green card like we get:) not sure of the cost.
Might be about so time to shop around good luck.

I used to get a rider policy for the bikes but that disappeared too with NU.

Any EU insurance policy will provide minimum level third party EU cover and are obligated to supply a green card if you ask. Most call center folk are clueless though I've found and will say "no" or "only 90 days" or various reasons, so usually worth asking for superiors and being stubborn, and you'll get there eventually.

Thank you, I’ll see what they say before renewing.
