Hi all

Slowly working my way around all the bits and pieces I need to change/replace/improve/burn/bin etc on my S3 but one of the items recently replaced by a local garage (door seals) I’m really unhappy with. The standard one piece seals seem to actually be more for 90/Defender and do not fit well to my series 3. The doors close poorly now as a result.

I’ve seen a few videos where they can be modified but require ripping out the metal spine which runs through these seals and quite easy to knacker them and have to spend another £30 to try again.

Has anyone managed to actually find a decent replacement one piece seal for a series Land Rover that fits well from the off?

I had to cut the alloy lip off the body to use defender door seals. Was many years ago when series were cheap. Don't think I would do that now if I had a good one.
 
The ones that just glue on are actually quite good, easy to fit etc, much softer than the coiler seals.

Ha yes I don’t fancy doing that to mine to be honest. I’m too precious about it as it is 🤣. I’m surprised no one has made a one piece seal specifically for the series landys - much easier to swap over roof between hardtop and canvas etc for summer than drilling out rivets everytime
 
I have one piece seals. They are good but I too had to grind off the lip on the door frame. They are advertised as series so fit well but the bottoms have to be trimmed off to size. The top is ready tingly long and as you fit the right angled corners first then knock in the middle bit it pushes into the corners making a good tight fit. The only tricky bit is then knocking down the vertical lengths and getting a good fit round the arc at the top of the body joint.

Water will run down the tub top and pour into the cab if that gap isn’t masticked up just above the lock keep where the roof side panel meets the tub.

That is what I did with mine and then fit defender seals. as long as you are carful and neat about it only the true rivet counters will be able to tell the difference.

Aye all depends if you want a vehicle to enjoy driving or whether you want a concours example.

Looks like a job I’ll have to tackle at some point as the rubbers are hanging off. The truck when completed will never top circa £5k, so I’d rather have rubbers that prevent water ingress and a drafts out 👍 there’ll be plenty of other places water can get in on a series 🤣

I completely agree with your view. It should be used and therefore functionality is the most important aspect. Mine lives outside year round and was pressed into service as a daily drive this week as the 110 gearbox was rebuilt and has happily done over 800miles in the last 10 days.
