Hello you clever lot,

Does anyone know how the MPG is calculated on the on-board computer display? I'm running LPG but it still seems to calculate MPG even though no petrol is being used.

I know it's never accurate, particularly as my wheel size has changed but would be a useful guide.

PS, getting 22 mpg on display (for a fairly sedate 50 mile A road run) which seems too good to be true!

The fuel computer is broken. :D
 
When you put the pokey thing that smells of petrol in it (or LPG), watch how the £££ goes up, very accurate guide ;) Computers don’t calculate leaks or anything reliable for that matter

Brim to brim is best I find

Whether or not it's accurate or not, i was simply wondering how it's calculated as clearly it's not from the amount of fuel used!
 
I'm guessing, it know how many miles you do, it knows how long the injectors open for, does a bit of fudging and comes up with a number
 
Pah fuel consumption.

it could be doing 12mpg for all you know and on LPG it would still be as cheap or maybe cheaper to run than ther derv ;)
 
Don't need a come back, the 4.6 drops liners like a tart drops knickers especially on gas. Most of the MPG figures seem to smack of wishful thinking.
Nah not really, there are plenty of higher mileage v8's on here and other forums.

As for MPG the computer is "quite" accurate
 
Datatek is right, it is calc'd from injector opening times and distance.
 
It must also take a signal from the fuel tank sender 'cos when you fill it up it re-calculates the range?

Mine seems to be pretty close to the brim to brim calculations I've done. Average 23mpg, on a motorway run 35. (Across the fields or towing about 12!)
(Mine's a 2.5 DT, and I recently did all the FIP seals which gave me another 1 mpg)

The computer wasn’t calibrated to work out lpg consumption and would probably need recalibration after 2decades best case. He knows it won’t be accurate - he has gigantic wheels :rolleyes::cool:

Fuel sender, coz they never cock up lol.

Can’t see a V8 being cheaper to run than a 2.5. If it was I’d already have one. LPG will make it similar maybe depends on what you start chipping/changing and how you drive. Auto won’t do anything to help MPG for start

Wasn't talking about LPG consumption in regards to the computer, on petrol its rather accurate..

LPG is 57ppl here a Healthy thor 4.6 will do 16mpg on Gas and around 17-21mpg on petrol which is roughly 121ppl here, so around half the price.. double the consumption and thats your saving, so around Mid 30s to the gallon in price equiv..

The overworked diesel will do 23-26mpg prolly peaking into the 30s if chipped but derv juice is 132ppl so no money saving, unfortunately, maybe even a tad more expensive.

Not to mention the V has more TORQUE and is smoother quieter etc etc etc..
