I’ve not been able to get underneath the car as yet to remove the switch or put the pressure tester. I’m hoping to do that once we’re back on Tuesday. Out of curiosity, apart from the warning light, what would be the symptoms of low oil pressure?

I have a 98 300tdi. 175k.
Literally within two hours of buying it the oil light came on, and would thereafter come in once the engine was warm. A new switch was fitted and I've put 30k on it since, all good.
For piece of mind you can get a splitter at the switch connection to go to a pressure gauge in the cab.

I do fancy do that. As you say, an extra piece of mind!

+1 on the gauge. IMHO Durite capilliary or don't bother - you can guess how I know this ;)

here's a linky:-

( though, the above has a 12 foot capilliary - and I'm pretty sure they do a shorter one which would be better ( unless you're riding behind in a trailer ;) o_O )

If you fit a port for a pressure transducer make sure its the right thread for the housing, the housing is alloy and you can easily strip the thread, I used one from a rrc v8 in mine with the gauge from the same vehicle. Buy Land Rover specific if you are not sure.
