Hi fellas,

Greetings from downunder. Melbourne Australia to be precise. I have an issue you may be able to assist me with before I mortgage the farm and drop the car into a dealer. I have a 98 (Series 1 - last of) Auto V8 Discovery with about 200,000 kilometers on the clock. On a recent 2,000 k interstate tour, towards the end, I got the oil pressure light coming on intermittently and after stopping for a few minutes, I could proceed for another few kays or so before it happened again. Upon stopping and returning to idle, it was eviodent the oil wasn't getting to the top end (bucket of marbles sound). I did the right thing and had the car transported to home base where it now resides waiting for me to make it better again.

Any suggestions as to the cause of this and what steps I should take? I do my own servicing and am not afraid of a spanner.

Cheers,

TONY.

Not actually familiar with the v8, but either dodgy oil pump or does this engine have an oil strainer sump pick up? if so whip the sump off and make sure its not blocked.

aye change the oil pump and hope for the best. (new oil and filter etc..).
otherwise its prob a strip down job to inspect the general wear.

Twas the oil strainer sump pickup.

Change the oil pump ??? Have to sell a small child into slavery to afford that !!!
