I am just fitting a new oil pump to a completed 2.25 petrol engine on my Series III. I need to prime the pump with either grease or Vaseline?
The open hole in the attached picture is the inlet; is this where I need to pack it, or do I have to open the pump up and pack around the gears as well?
Are their any other tips on priming the pump? The engine is only sitting in a new chassis and is not ready to start up. I will have to crank the engine with its starter handle to prime the pump and pump oil around the engine to the top tappetts. Thanks

no packing necessary it sits in the oil level, just remove coil feed and turn engine on starter a few cranks to get oil circulating ,then refit and start it

Thanks, it is just that I have read that you need to pack the pump to prime it, otherwise it will not circulate the oil.
