Hi all
Well the good news my 110 now has an MOT, but I have two questions?
1) please see attached pictures does anyone know what this is and if it needs any form of oil or maintenance (oil pot?)
2) I have the cyclone type breather setup up how do I clean it / maintain in?

Now I just have to registrar my 110 and get a reg number

Thanks for anyone that can help

1 is an air filter indicator basically when the filter get's blocked the engine has to suck harder and this trigger's the indicator to move down, to test remove and suck on the small pipe the indicator will move, to reset it push the button on the top, basically not worth a toss on uk road's.

i reckon the breather widget just has a light spring inside so when crankcase pressure rise's it allow's the oil vapour into the inlet manifold.

1) as above.
2) you can take it apart and clean it with paraffin, prob best when you next oil change. Same with pipes. It works by the oil vapour swirling in the chamber causing the oil to drop to the sump and the air to raise into the intake.

Must have been an FFR as you have the 24v generator bolted to the engine on the drivers side. If you're not going to use it, consider unbolting it and selling it on.

I dont think that''s an oe fit land rover item and it's almost certainly not a cyclone one as per tdi engine's.
The older n/a unit's can pass a lot of oil when they are tired and I wonder if this is some sort of home mad jobby?

Thanks for help I will clean out the breather on my next oil change, she came direct from the army so I am guessing the breather is a army design?
I will unbolt the generator and sell on as suggested

Thanks again

It's standard fitment on the later mod 2.5 N/A's. Mine was exactly the same and it is a cyclone breather. I've got the military parts diagram for it somewhere, I'll dig it out and attach.

I managed to buy a spare genuine landrover one a year or so ago before I realised how basic it was. I think the civi ones used a different set-up to the military ones. Totally changed for tdi.

Yep mine is exactly the same type of breather - it was a late NA modification due to them having a habit of running on their own oil when a bit worn. It was a MOD only specific, err, mod I believe

sp00k thanks a lot i have been trying to workout how to clean it, would you have any suggestions for good manual army or civvy book as info seems a bit scarce on ex army vehicles?

Flat thanks for the comment she has a recon engine fitted that had done 84k but she was FFR so bit worrying no knowing the run hours but she passed mot on first go (Thanks Craig at Withams)
I will try to post some pictures at the weekend

cheers cadlean
