Hi, I’m new here so apologies if I’ve posted in the wrong place. I’ve recently had problems with oil down the back of the block, I changed the rocker gasket but it’s still occurring. My next thought was the head gasket but there are a couple plastic hoses with 180 degree bent ends floating around back there. Does anyone know what these are for ? It’s a 53 reg defender 90 td5. Pic attached, thanks in advance

It would help if we knew..

#1 what model and year the vehicle is

#2 what engine it has

#3 Petrol/diesel

etc etc

Oh and welcome

I’m not that familiar with TD5 engines, but the two pipes are probably your axle breather pipes.
Dang! He beat me. ^^

From that photo it looks like the rocker cover gasket is still leaking. Do you know what brand you used? You can get duff ones.

The rear of the rocker gasket can also be difficult to get right. If you are not very careful the lip at the rear corner may not seat correctly.

thanks for the info! I think il have it back off at some point just to double check, it seemed to line up pretty sweet though

I've had no problem with Bearmach ones, but that is a small sample size. However, before you buy another one, take the rocker cover off and make sure it was seated correctly.

its a Bearmach one from eBay. unsure if its good or bad ?
To be honest, each brand can supply good and duff. Bearmach are a supplier and not a manufacturer, they may have got a dodgy batch. There is a thread running about them being not that good, but again, each supplier can have good and bad moments.

Looks like ‘Reinz’ is the genuine manufacturer, so if replacing you may want to spend the extra couple of quid and get one of theirs, or look for the ‘G’ suffix on part numbers.

awesome, I've checked eBay and they're literally a couple quid more :| ... I'm going to try changing that and seeing where i get to! il keep you posted :)

I’ve had a quick search, because I’m bored, and the rubber half circle where yours is leaking is quite a common place to leak from and it’s recommended to apply a small amount of sealant to this area when fitting.

it amuses me that you've justified why you've had a look :) ... anyway, I've had a prod around and it doesn't seem too clever, i have some RTA silicone sealant I'm going to put some around that and leave it over night and hopefully all will be well :D

Have a read of the Workshop manual.
