Hi All,

Took my P38 to the mechanic after lots of problems (see my other posts) which were mainly to do with loss of power and shaking when running on petrol and to some degree on LPG. Just not smooth and horrible to drive.

The mechanic replaced spark plugs, leads, camshaft, radiator, catalyst, coil packs, and did oil and filter change (perhaps other things I can't remember!).

Power back to normal, and driving like a dream on both petrol and LPG. Drove back home (1200 km in one day) and checked the oil. It had lost approximately 2.5 litres of oil

Don't see any black/blue smoke when starting up or driving and has no problems starting or running. Got a little shaky before I checked the oil and ok now topped up. Called the mechanic and he said to get the underneath cleaned and then wait a couple of days and see if we can spot an oil leak anywhere.

Any ideas of what this could be? Any advice appreciated.

Leaking Front Cover I would suspect or a loose pipe union to the oil cooler!

Thanks for your reply Saint.V8. Can't see any oil around the engine, parked up on gravel overnight and then it rained so can't see any trace of it on the ground.

Do you have any diagram of the pipe union to the oil cooler? So I can check this.

There are two pipes that connect to the front cover, one underneath and one on the side above the oil filter. check both.

As the front cover and sump have been off to replace the camshaft and etc....these are the most logical items to check!.

Thanks for your replies.

Druim - we saw them put new oil in when we got an oil change and then drove it the next day. Wasn't checked again until after our 1200km drive.

Can't see any oil leaking from anywhere and have been driving it around all week with no further oil loss?!

But there is a new problem  which I will submit a new post for.

Didn't put enough in then. :);)

Didn't check the oil level before a long drive

If he has had the engine apart to change the cam shaft then just filled up on dipstick without running engine and topping again, that could account for low oil. When you check oil level on any engine you should start up wait until oil lamp goes out, stop engine, then top up.
