Chaps. Hope someone can assist with a problem I am having with swmbo TD4 Freelander 2002. Changed the oil recently as I suspected that the level was increasing. True enough after a couple of hundred miles the level is creeping up on the dipstick.

So where do I start to eliminate possible causes. Level was spot on after change and recent injector test so very little difference across them as regards to leak back:( Current miles are just under 100000.

this is diesel leaking into the oil (I think) this has cropped up before,

injectors dribble diesel slightly into the cylinder bores which then passes the piston rings and ends up in the sump which causes the oil level to rise.

This need sorting urgently, as it will kill the engine in a short space of time, the diesel is diluting the oil and will causes a lot of wear very rapidly.

good luck though.

electronic fuel injectors or the ecu for them has gone tits up. get it fixed or you will need a new engine. Could also hydro lock it and bend connecting rods

Thanks. Would the best action be a set of recon injectors?

why buy 4 if you only need ? or it could be the electric control unit for the injectors. Get a proper test done and fix only what is bad.

My diesel hydro locked ( was lucky came off of 60 mph to a idea at stop sign and locked up)was just 1 injector. It was replaced and 80k miles later still no more problems. Those computer hook ups to the motor for checking things out sure save money, that is why they are there, use them:)

So a Nanocom or something similar would show if one was leaking into the cylinders?

That is do not know. Could just say over fueling with out, telling which cylinder.

My ford had glow plug issue's 190k on it so took it do dealer , they hooked up there computer to it and did a test, 3 were dead and 2 were less than 50% so had all 8 replaced. with new harness. $300 for repair parts and labor, test was free. not bad for a 8 yr old truck with 190k miles in it:D
