hi i have just brought my first defender not knowing much about them have got it home and have found quantities of oil from diff gear box and engine would this mean its half broke in a nice word or is it normal to have oil coming from any of them or should i just sit in a corner and start crying now ?

Well, it depends how much you're losing. Mostly, it can be solved by replacing seals - input shafts of the diffs, rear end of the crankshaft, and so on. However, there's some dismantling involved, especially for the crank rear oil seal, so if it's not excessive you may just want to keep checking the levels and topping up.

Is it actually dripping:confused::confused::confused:, the underneath of my Fender is always covered in oil, but never drips, and never uses a drop:eek::eek::confused::confused::confused:

its a fender, and its automatic opil level system, when its stopped dripping, its run out.

Mine marks its place with three drops whenever you park it anywhere.
it might look a lot, but its nowt.
I replaced all the oils on mine when I got it, and check them weekly (engine)/monthly (everywhere else) and so far needed to top up non of them, the engine has gone down from "full" to 1/8" below "full" in 7K (oil change due next week)

You need to worry when it STOPS leaking oil.

Defenders are a living thing and like all living things, they need to empty their body fluids.

If it leaves a puddle every time you park it, then it needs sorting. If its just a few drops here and there then as long a you keep your eye on the levels it will be fine.

thanks it dosent actually drip its like some one go a knife n smothered it on

That sounds pretty normal, it'll probably be a bit of oil on top of grease from the u/j's, and looks far worse than it is:eek::eek: Keep an eye on your levels and grease your u/j's regularly and you should be fine;);)
