SO, been under the Freelander this morning with the steam cleaner, trying to locate my oil leak.

It appear that oil is seeping out from between the engine and gearbox.

Am I correct in thinking that this will be the crank oil seal(s)

Its a 2001 td4 auto, by the way.

It would depend on the colour of the oil that is leaking. Black is likely to be engine oil, so crank seal.
Red to brown for auto box input seal.

It black oil, defo engine oil.

Rang the local independent guy. £650 for manual, and lots more for autobox was his quote.

Car is going bye bye

keep it on the road!
dripping oil and topping up is part of a Land Rover owners weekly tasks.

Its going to have to stay on the road until I can afford another car anyways. Might be until January.

Just have to park on the road, save having to clean the driveway all the time :D

Car didn't "die", ......the seal went out (wear item). I would shop for cheaper labor. I can get it done here in CA for 250US+ parts.

Why more for the auto? There's less to replace with the auto box. With a manual, the clutch would likely need replacing, there's no clutch on an auto to get ruined with oil.
Just keep using it and top the oil up occasionally. ;)
