I discovered an oil leak when I removed the protective part under the engine. I am not mechanically minded so I am looking for some advice as to what may be causing it and is it a big job to fix.
Unfortunately not! Camera zoom is knackered on my phone and I didn't have it up on ramps etc - I just crawled underneath. The heating pipe (I think is directly beside it) and it's on the passenger side of the engine! I have the shield back on it now but if required I can take it off tomorrow!!
On baby sitting duty so i have trawled the net and eventually found a zoomed out photo of the area that I am getting the oil leak in. Is there a seal between this? Mark in red where the oil is coming out!
There was an issue with the gearbox breather and a new design one was needed to prevent oil leakage and also it can leak from the air intake connection hose at the rear of the engine and the drip down, the fix for this was to seal the join in the pipe with some RTV.
Could also be a leaking rear crankshaft seal.
I'm not familiar enough with the underneath of a FL2 to determine which orientation your photo is showing
Thanks for that. I have it booked in for next thursday at local land rover mechanic (not main dealer) so I will fill you in when I get his report. Here's hoping it's a cheap fix!
