please put my mind at rest. I've always had a slight oil leak from the front of the sump which is minor and I've just put up with it, However I was out today for a longish drive and when I got back there was more of a drip / flow than usual I had a look underneath and it seems to be coming from the drain hole at the back of the cam belt case. Thoughts on what's going on here please. I fear the worst albeit the car is running pretty well. It's a 200 tdi by the way.

You will need to take the cam belt cover off to see if it is a crank or camshaft seal leak, neither are too bad to replace. If the belt has been contaminated then that will need changing too (may as well change he tensioner / idler at the same time and do a 'proper job'

Thanks for responding Kwakerman. I've noticed the car being smokier than normal recently. Could this be linked?

Not really, unless you are getting a lot of blow by which pressurising the crank case and forcing oil past the cam or crank seal. Leave the engine ticking over and remove the oil filler cap, if you are getting a lot of air out of the hole then you may have blow by, if you do first job should be to make sure all the breather system is clear. If oil is getting on to the exhaust and burning off that smoke would be from around the engine bay area and not out the actual pipe itself.

Kwackermans posts are correct but I would be 100% sure that it is engine oil and not fuel from the FIP front seal.
Give it a sniff.
