After cleaning the engine and getting rid of all the old gunge, I can now see an obvious oil seepage near the diesel injectors. Its not the injector seats themselves, but there is a centrally bolted flange plate, oval-ish in shape, that obviously holds the injector in its seat. The other end of this plate sits on a lug that protrudes up from out of the cylinder head by about 10mm. The oil is seeping from around this lug. I don't understand, from what I can see,why this lug would be a able to leak oil, unless the lug is just the visible tip of something else that just shares the injector clamp plate. The engine is in a '96' disco 2.5. Is it simply a case of removing the injector clamp plate and putting a new seal around whatever it is that is mounted just below the injector, or is it something far more sinister and complicated?

If it's definitely engine oil and not diesel, it could be leaking from the rocker cover behind the injector and running out from under that plate. Dunno, that's mostly a guess, can you get a picture of it?

Def. engine oil and def not running down from the rocker cover, injector seat is completely clean. Its coming out from round the lug that the injector clamp plate sits on ( not the central bolt). Can get a pic but have no idea how to post it on here. does the injector clamp plate hold something else as well as the injector? If the lug was just a support for the injector clamp I would have thought it would have either been part of the head casting or a pin that would sit in a locating hole but if that was the case there would be no way for oil to escape from it.

Looks like nobody knows then.

you think all 90,000 + members read every new post in every section on a daily basis?

Be patient ffs  or you could try one of the other landy forums where you may get an answer within a month if you're lucky.

which one front ? dowels just sit in blind holes ,they shouldnt leak unless heads cracked but ive never heard of them cracking there ,are you sure rocker gaskets hasnt leaked and some oils sitting around the dowel

If you are keen to have a spotless engine, then change out the rocker cover gasket and the injector seals, also put a gasket under what seems to be the offending article (central ovoid plate).

Its the one at the rear and the third from rear ( situated behind a small black tank like unit. I cant see any evidence of oil above this or on the side of the head around the injectors, presumably the oil would only be able to leak externally from the rocker to reach this point which would leave an oil track? I did think about the possibility of a cracked head but thought it unlikely to go in two similar locations. I can see a slight oil trace from the head gasket but not enough to warrant changing the gasket yet. Gotta say its puzzling me.
