Hi guys,

A novice mechanic, yet Landy lover here.

I have an old 110 that’s got a bad leak going on. It’s coming somewhere out of the top.

It would probably be difficult to diagnose exactly from the pics (although somebody may know)

could I ask for the general consensus of the what the possible faults are, and what the remedy is, and if possible the sort of costs involved...

With thanks,

mark

It doesn't look that bad to me....
Crankcase breather, rocker cover gasket and fuel pump gaskets are the usual suspects

I was just getting a bit worried as RAC bloke said it was a ‘terrible’ leak... when I look under the whole engine bay part of the chassis is sodden in oil..... had the RAC out as the clutch has gone (he thinks). So I’m just getting ouotes on that (£800 All in so far). Wish I’d have learned spanner’s!!!

fairly normal to cleaner than many
Dear James,

Always admired your ‘Great War Hero’ meme, and have always wondered who it is? Adrian Carton de Wiart?

thanks for your words of wisdom: it drops a few spots of oil everywhere we go. It’s a 200tdi, so a tough old bugger? In the style of Adrian Carton de Wiart?

as above I’m getting quotes on the clutch, and wouldn’t mind getting this sorted also (along with other bits)

Any body know a fair landy man in Surrey/London?

To get the full experience see his book "Happy Odyssey". He can't even be bothered to mention his VC !!!!

Thanks for this, and I shall look that book up! I’ve started to look a lot more into WW1, and am going to join the western front association. On the point about not mentioning his VC, you know what that generation were like; selfless. Wouldn’t have occurred to the man to boast or virtue signal.

Rocker cover gaskets on many cars leak as they get older & the gasket material gets hard.
I've seen some of the rubbery material type that had got so hard I could snap them.
Not usually a good idea to reuse an old one.
