Noticed some oil from what I think is called the swivel on the front axle. I have included a picture of my good one and my bad one. The hubs were all done up in 2010-ish before I got it. They seem to be in good condition, no rust or pitting.
What do I need to get my mechanic to get hold of, I'm taking it a seal of some description? Anything else I should change whist it is apart also?
Thanks for advise,

Swivel housing seal, and you will need at least one other seal, depending on how you change it.
If the ball is worn or pitted, you will need a new ball. I cant see the condition because of the grease. Other side ball looks OK.

Thanks for the link there.
It's a 2003 td5, and up until I last looked the condition of the balls was both the same, no damage etc.

This is what it had done a few years back, I will replace seals with genuine landrover ones and see how she goes

Couple of things here, though I am certainly not an expert.
1/. your invoice does not itemise the replacement of the n/s/f ball unit, just the bearings and seals.
2/. having changed the swivel balls and bearings/seals on my 90 I don't see how anyone could do it within 4 hours, especially considering the other itemised work?

perhaps I'm just slow.:)

Just an update to this problem in case anyone searched for something similar.
Mechanic sorted it yesterday, had allowed himself 4 hours but took him 2 1/2 hours, said everything came apart fine, bearings were in good condition in there too. Replaced with landrover genuine seals. Cost £106 all in. He is experienced at doing these, said he has done loads over the years so expect that helped with the time taken. He is also very very cheap on his hourly rate! Glad I didn't undertake it myself, it would have been 8 hours at the very least.
So another leak sorted! Until the next time...
