I know.. I know, its just marking it territory, but I'm afraid that doesn't wash with the missus and the increasingly noticeable patch on my driveway! Little drip 6 months ago, got progressively worse until I've had to do something about it. Were definitely leaks from sump gasket and rocker gasket, difficult to tell how bad and how long cause it all gangs up at the bottom, but in changing them both, I got better access to give everything a good wipe down.. And, after a couple of goes at the rocker (little half moon bit is a pig to get sealed, but sorted now), both gaskets all good now! And with a clean view, I can now see the last leak (hopefully) seems to be running down from somewhere around the bottom of the rotor filter housing. Obviously I've ensured the housing itself around the o-ring isn't leaking or the main oil filter.. So I'm thinking somewhere around the oil cooler/top gasket of the rotor drain pipe? Question is, anything I should try quick and easy, before draining coolant, removing belt, shifting aircon compressor and whipping of the turbo so I can access the entire oil manifold/rotor filter/oil filter setup? What about the camshaft front blanking plug? The fan blows any leaking oil all over the engine. Don’t ask me how I know that!!
 
Good shout, but I did the blanking plug last year.. Definitely not this particular leak. Pretty sure it's around the oil cooler, but there's a lot of potential suspects, all around that particular area and without dismantling quite a few parts I can't be 100%.. Unless someone has a trick to get a better look at it without taking too many bits off?

Try a mirror or someone with a camera probe. Sorry I'm too far away.

I have got a cheap ebay endoscope somewhere, but it's never been too helpful, won't focus enough to help.. Have decided to try and pull some parts off till I can get a better view, everywhere I can access is clean.. And as I say I can now see that it's somewhere around the oil cooler. Unfortunately after draining coolant, I got stuck pretty early into removing turbo when I couldn't free the 3rd bolt on the downpipe, you just can't get leverage on that one, tried from underneath with about 50cm of 1/2 inch socket extentions and could just about get on it, with a wobble joint, but am scared that I'll round the nut and be in trouble! Have tried heat, wd40, swearing at it, nothing yet.. Gonna keep applying wd40 for a few more days, then try again on the weekend.. Thanks for the replies so far!
 
Hi Ush,
If you can , try some proper release fluid (plus gas etc) as WD40 is not really the best stuff.

Yeah was plusgas I've used.. Just in the habit of saying wd40 as a generic term, and there's less letters! I've seen some posts talking about using heat and plusgas, not sure which way around.. Guessing you'd have to be careful with flammability etc?

and i've been using that mix for so long i have no clue who told me about it! Prolly the old boy who ran the garage from behind his house next to mine in Poole. One of many tricks he taught me.
We could sell him a Chesil Speedster if he likes!!!!!

I don't know enough about this. I thought buying an English wheel was pretty straightforward, or is this type special in someway?

Yes the frame is cast iron...he found an original in a blokes garden and then got a mould made to cast the frame then got the wheels remade to original spec not easy...had them at brooklands this year on display...

This is on the list of stuff I'd buy if I won the lottery.
apart from a huge barn/garage/workshop.


and at least three staff to look after me and the missus day to day !!!:D:D:D
