Is the alloy block you are referring to on the side of the outside face of the chassis approx below the drivers seat? The oil on the cross member could be from a number of places as it could be blowing back when driving.

I have managed to get 1 photo uploaded

Ok. Alloy block is defo the Ace Block. You can buy seals, but they are notorious for leaking again. A new block, and second hand one still requires new seals to be used. In my opinion its best to do away with Ace system and there are varying opinions on that, and the way to do it. If the Transfer box leak isn't that bad, you could top it up now and again and keep your eye on it. But to be honest, I would be taking it back where you got it !!!!

Thanks for all the advice so far I just want as much ammo for the garage tomorrow so any more advice would be greatly appreciated thanks again Chris

Id bet my hard earned money that you leaks are coming from the rear of the head and comming down either side of the bell housing , the pics are of the box ,i couldnt see the ace block ( returns to pics)

Nope all pics show are transfer box and main gearbox underside , i cant see an ace block ? anyone else?

I have taken it back to the dealer the same excuse it could be breather pipes told him that it was leaking and to get it sorted he told me all discos make the dry grinding noise when started. Also it is really difficult to get into low box should this be the case ? Also when driving it over it started to drip water through the front sunroof handle is this also a fault on the discos ? To be honest think I want rid think it's more problems than it's worth any advice would be helpfull as I'm at my wits end Chris

Return and get your money back. Breather stuff is bull****. "They all make that noise" is bull****. Water coming in is almost certainly sunroofs leaking, assuming it has them. By your posts I would assume that fixing any, or all of these issues is beyond your skill level, and I don't mean to be rude in saying that. All of the items you have shown us are, unfortunately, not uncommon on Discos. However, I wouldn't buy one that has them all at the same time. Get your cash back asap.

Cheers for that I am mechanically minded though lol I work in engineering just never had a disco had a free lander a few years ago with no issues I am sick of the garage fobbing me off and have been told by trading standards that I am well with in my rights to demand my money back. I did wonder why the bottom of it was newly coated in under seal probably to hide the leaks !! Thanks for advice Chris

Does anyone know why it would be difficult to get into low box ?. Please help

Coz its not been used

How many times do you need told..get your cash back. The longer you let the garage dictate terms the worse the outcome for you.
That said if it doesnt have rust issues i would buy it for a project.
Underseal is ringing bells for me, has the chassis been checked for the usual terminal rust!

sometimes they are stiff, some may not even been in low box before, we had one and all the sound proofing was fouling the mechanism, easy fix, but a worry at first, the sunroofs will want sealing, headlining right out, mornings work, loads of threads on here about that, as for breather!!!! that is a load of bull, is there anyway you can get a 2nd opinion from another garage? to be honest disco are an easy fix 95% of the time, but if you have bought it with all the faults you will be ****ed off, unless you got it cheap which i doubt!
