Hi away from my 300tdi 1994 CSW at the moment pondering a recent and quite quick oil leak.

cannot share pics as not with vehicle. But I am seeing oil roughly as ringed.

I have degreased the engine and the leak is landing on the ground just behind front axle on rhs if looking at vehicle from the front.

looking inside the engine bay it appears to becoming from the bottom of the engine at the front where there is a slight flat shelf in the shape.

any ideas where it might be leaking from.

sorry to be so vague.

P.s. the leak is quite quick. About a saucer size circle of oil after 5 mins

EDIT sorry was too vague and now back with the landrover had a look and took photos. The liquid is honey in colour when it lands on the cardboard like fresh oil. But the engine oil on dipstick is black so not sure its engine oil. The leak runs quite quick when its happening and leaves a bubble about 6" across. But doesn't happen when stood only when running.

Degreased and looked at engine and this is what I see, but not sure if this is the leak. Front right bottom on engine as you look from in front of the defender. As ideas what might be leaking? thanks

Could it be coolant with a bit of oil in it collected as it runs down the block? Or power steering fluid.

I did wonder about those and Brake Fluid .... might need to try and catch some in a container rather than a cardboard sheet ....

Is it coming out between the main block and the housing on the front of the engine that contains the cam belt? It's not usually a major source of oil loss but it might indicate that a seal has gone - perhaps the crank or camshaft seal.

I think it'll be hard to tell without a bit more cleaning up. I usually go over everything with a can of brake cleaner and a roll of kitchen towel under circumstances like this.

I think you are right re cleaning. I thought I had done a better job. Difference between what I can see and what my phone on end of my arm can see :0)

got a feeling a spell under truck filming maybe in order.

Captain Slo' .... :vb-wave: the original post was October 2022 :)

To leak, to fix, to drip again, that was the questtion ...
