Right, fed up with lack of power in my 300tdi it's getting scary pulling out of a junction it's so slow. I can't use 5th below 40ish mph as the engine labours and even at 40mph you put your foot down in 5th and nothing happens. usually drive it in 4th at 30mph and hope I don't have to overtake a horse or cyclist.

So far I've changed the oil filter, cleaned the sedimenter, changed the lift pump and changed the air filter. Tonight I checked the hoses to/from the turbo/intercooler and found that the 90 degree hose off the turbo has oil leaking out of it around the clamp, the engine was warm and the oil was fresh warm oil, not old gunky stuff. I'm guessing their must be a slight leak, would this be sufficient to cause the power issue, as the hose isn't split or anything, also should I be worried about oil in the turbo hose?

Thinking of buying some silicone hoses and noticed they come in sets of three, where does the little hose go? Anyone got a picture of their engine with nice colourful hoses on so I can see where they go?

Ta.

there ant no smoke then ???
check the turbo for ware ie the turbo bearing aswell
have you washed out your intercooler recently
failing all above you can turn your injector pump up a bit not something i would personally do but its an option

Sounds like a turbo problem. Would have thought there would be a lot of blue smoke . Check the boost pipe from turbo to f.i.p .Its a 5mm pipe goes round back of engine. Sometimes they melt and are full of oil. Dont mess with the fuel pump adjustments until your sure everything is working as it should.

Thanks for the help, no smoke at all and everything else seems OK, starts no problem just so slow, was thinking about cleaning the intercooler next and was holding off tweeking the pump until I was sure everything was 'OK' like what's been said.

Interesting about it sounding normal not to be in 5th so soon, maybe I am just expecting too much from a 16 year old Disco. Trouble is my wife has a BMW 330d which pulls like a fighter jet in any gear, so when I jump back in the Disco it just doesn't feel right to be in 4th at 40mph! Don't suppose it having M/T's on would make a difference would it even though they are the same size as my road tyres (235/70/16)..just a thought.

Best plan before messing with anything is to fit a BOOST GAUGE.

You need to know YES or NO, is the turbo blowing as hard as it should, as soon as it should?

It should hit nearly 1 BAR boost (about 14-15 psi) from about 2,000 rpm with full throttle.

If there's no smoke from the exhaust (as in blue oil smoke) I suggest you assume there's nothing wrong with the GUTS of the turbo, but the waste gate might be a bit stuck open. You can check that, but you might be surprised how much force it takes to move the waste-gate control rod.

Get hold of it and make sure it can be moved AWAY from the capsule, about an inch.

I fell into the same trap after coming from a ford Mondeo diesel which would pull from walking speed in 6th, the disco is just a bit long in the tooth I think. My disco will accelerate from 40 in 5 th but she's not happy about it, likes to be kept in the power band - 1800 to 3000 revs.

Yes, defo fit a boost gauge, even if only temporary, it really does give good info on the turbo.
