I have a '97 Disco with grey smoke billowing out the back when I excellerate espcialy up hill. I suspected the turbo.. sure 'nuf.. oil leaking prety bad. What are my options?? how pricey? Oh, and I live in Africa and no Landy dealer near by. Any thoughts on how I can keep it limping along untill I am able get a new one shiped in? How much Damage can I cause by running it this way?

Don't know on the disco, but it's possible to run some engines with the turbo removed and some temporary pipework.

yeah i was told after i had a similar problem that you could cap the oil flow and return pipes to the turbo, not sure what you would do with the boost pressure pipe though?

quite a lot of damage if engine runs away on its own oil,you could just remove outlet from turbo and let it run normally aspirated ,gut turbo and block oil feed if oil loss is considerable ,without boost feed from turbo to injection pump it should run reasonably normal but with reduced power ,many remove the turbo to run in series landys

Cap it or replace it. Had this go on me before and although you get a very impressive smoke cloud and glowing red exhaust with all your engine oil going there its a lot of work t fix. This is my worry too as they are expensive to replace but also a good excuse to buy a VVT turbo
