I'm trying to find the cause of my engine misfire/vibration @ 2300 to 2500 rpm. I did have 'oil in the loom' but cleaned out the ecu and changed the injector loom. if oil is still in the main loom, would it continue to cause a misfire at these revs?

At least your vehicle is still running my 2000 Disco TD5 started to misfire and then would not start at all yesterday. i waited for 3 hours for a recovery vehicle to uplift the vehicle in Aberdeen and we were just about to head in the direction of Town & County who are the LR dealers for ABERDEEN. The recovery chap recommended that we take the vehicle to Greenbank 4x4 for them to look at. I have now had an update and they will have to order a new engine wiring harness as they are getting crazy faults in regards to the injectors, plus the harness is oil impregnated. If that does not work it looks like a new Engine ECU. Bloody thing is going to cost a fortune to get back on the road.

did you thoroughly clean all the plugs [one at the engine and one at the ECU]? i first sprayed mine with a de-greaser then sprayed the fook outta the whole lot, including the ECU with an electrical contact cleaner. if there is oil in the loom, i dont think it will cause a missfire....the problem only arises when the oil gets to the plugs

Well, I cleaned out the ECU of oil again last night (no oil in the connector at the injector loom) and engine runs better although the misfire/vibration is still there @ 2500 rpm

only thing to do is get it hooked up to a puter. mine did the same, but came right after the spring clean, but still shows open circuit on injector 3. runs like a dream tho, so i guess i was lucky.

Right, i've been monitoring this problem for a few days and have noticed that:

Misfire/vibration or rough running severity varies day by day

The engine runs much smoother after 2600rpm

there is a raspy/tappetty noise from 2000 to 2600rpm. not sure if this is related (i know the TD5 isnt going to be silent, but mine is louder than a mates)

Is there any electrical or mechanical thing that only operates below 2600rpm?

you're getting up to full boost pressure at this range... could it be an issue with the turbo? you could try putting a long screwdriver or broomhandle on it and put the other end to your ear and listen...

its your adjusters on the cam followers for the injectors.....there is a thread in here somewhere on how to adjust them....not a big job, but will quieten things down a bit. at a guess, yer doing around 60mph at 2600rpm??

I did wonder if it was the turbo but have checked the waste gate and it moves ok. The inside of the turbo (looking in from the MAF pipe) looks intact and clean. What else on the turbo goes wrong?

The noise does sound a bit like tappets.

2600rpm is about 70mph (but the car rouns rough up to these revs when stationary, which i hope rules out the transmision side of things)

if yer lash adjusters are out, is like having a car with adjustable tappets that are out of adjustment.....runs up to ****. yer injector timing can be out by a few milliseconds, and if they r really bad, u wont be gettin the correct mix being injected because yer injector plunger is not going its full travel. they have to be spot on in order for everything to work proper.

it makes sense that it shud do that, but it doesn't. cant quite figure that wun out. mine had the same oil in loom thing, then did exactly the same as yours....number 3 injector keeps showing open circuit. runs ever so slighly rough at around the 2600rpm mark like yours, but mine does a stranger thing....i u go anywhere past 50 to 60% throttle, she goes into a reduced boost or power mode. u gotta stop, switch off, then restart, and all back to normal. i do know that when in this reduced power mode, she runs really rough at around the 2600 mark. i just live with it as u very rarely need more than about 30 to 40% throttle....any more and u just wasting fuel and layin down a smoke screen. i just re-adjust the lash adjusters when she starts to sound a bit overly noisy...about every 10thou or so.

mine is the opposite on the throttle front, more throttle (past 2600 rpm) the smoother the engine and no loss of boost (still goes like a rocket)

just to throw something else into the ring! today on the way to work, with the tourque converter locked, i put my foot down (approx 60mph to 90mph). the car ran smoothly but it felt like it was holding back then acc again, then holding back, not by much but noticable. could this be related?
