I've got an annoying leak from my oil filter housing. It's a 2.5NA housing on a 200 TDI. It's only present when the engine is running. Oil accumulates on the end of the filter and then drips onto the prop shaft.

I'm fairly certain that the leak is coming from the oil stat. Looking at the parts diagram, there is an o ring ETC5913, so I'll try renewing that. Is this a special o-ring or will any (the same size) do?

Are you 100% certain it is coming from there, as the reason I ask, is that I had the same issue with my oil filter housing (a new filter tightened correctly) - which dripped exactly the same. Very annoying as it then dripped off the diff / prop etc.

I have recently replaced the filter - drip now gone, so may be worth replacing the filter first?

can be tricky to trace some drips. try to clean as much as u can then splash some talc around and that might help identify the source

I'm certain it's not the filter. There is a little streak of oil from the oil pressure sensor base which runs down and accumulates on the lip of the fulter before dripping.

My first thought was that it's the oil pressure sensor but I think the oil us just routing that way. If I press a rag on the stat, the leak stops.

It was the o ring in the stat. It was compressed into a triangular shape and breaking down.
