Hi guys.

Got me new landy yesterday and drove home from kirkcaldy to dumfries was told when i picked it up that the oil would want changing every 5000 miles which is fair enough, what is the recommended oil for 200tdi engine?
And i also would like to know the best oils for gearbox, transfer box and diffs as im a bit of a regular oil checker (keeps me out the house you see):D

Morris XHD-FE 10w/40 semi synthetic for the engine, Morris Liquimatic 33G for the gearbox, Morris Lodexol Ultradrive / Lodexol EP80w/90 for the diffs and transfer box. without a doubt. I think you can buy direct from Automotive Lubricants - Engine Oils - Multipurpose Greases - Aerosols - Morris Lubricants - UK . Use engine flush when you change the oil though pal.

Sounds expensive.

What's wrong with Ovoline Tractor Universal?

Under £1 a litre and probably better than many oils at a fiver a pop.

I just stuck sum o' that halfords 5w/40 fully synthetic in mine when I last changed the oil and filter ( only cos it was BOGOF:D ). Runnin' quite sweet so's it is;) :D

Its that bloody telly advert fur winders Buy One Get One Free.....see nice polite answer

I don't know how to tell you this boys .... but ..... I don't have a TV in the house.

What for?

Thanks for the VERY POLITE replies ... BOGOF has condiderable potential for other sorts of definitions!

Nothing's really wrong with it charles, it might not meet the viscosity requirements for the TDi engine. Universal tractor oil obviously will have plenty of detergent additive in but they tend to be a thinner viscosity more like 5w-10w/30 ( worth checking this) which is a usually only recommended for cold climate conditions in the TDi engines, 10w/40 is slightly thicker when it's hot and is generally preferred for our climate.

I buy 210 litre barrel of OVOLINE tractor universal once in while.
The last barrel cost me £135 + vat .... and that MUST be better than Halfrauds & Co.

Check the Ovoline site if you have any doubts Brett Oils Ltd

I wrote to them not long ago about using it in the TD5 .... so now I do.

Most of the stories the makers put about regarding oils is C-R-A P intended to scare us into spending ridiculous amounts of money on daft oils.

What's the most anyone has paid per litre for engine oil?

Would this oil do for a 300tdi, i have been told the engine oil for a TD5 is different from a 300tdi?

Viscosity wise it is probably perfect for the TD5 because they require a thinner viscosity lubricant but the machining tolerances on the 300TDi engine are not so tight ( there is a bigger gap between the metal faces which need to be kept apart) so a slightly higher viscosity lube is recommended, you might want to make sure it meets or exceeds the quality requirements usually in the form of API or ACEA grades for that engine as well, it should tell you in your manual.
