So I have a spare hole in my dash for another gauge and with me already having egt and boost Id like an oil gauge. I know my engine is pretty pooped as she's blowing heavy so the question is do I go for an oil temp or oil pressure gauge. Im feeling the pressure gauge personally but just wondered which...

I've toyed with the same thing but I think I'm going for a rev counter. Oil temperature is pretty much related to the water temperature and there's a pressure warning light and it would only give me something else to look at and worry about :(

I'd go with a rev counter too. Unless you're running a 90TD then there's not much point in oil gauges IMO.

What about a nice clock?

Dont forget when oil light comes on its normally to late as they switch at something silly low like 5 psi.
Rev counter a waste of time, you know when its right to change gear.

My engine is chuffing anyway the oil light flickers when on tick over when she's red hot so I thought oil pressure to see if it'd actually correct that I have no oil pressure lol....

Temp doesn't interest me, I have a td5 dash so it has a clock that works. And a normal speedo plus I know when to change gear, at the point my ears start to bleed...

200tdi I took out a disco. It had 204k on the clock and I bet I've done no more than 2k. Ran like a dream until I took the head off and left it off only covered by the bonnet for a week or two. Had very slight surface rust on a bore when I came to put it back and also the bores were shiny so I guess that's glazed bores...

I have another block with a cracked piston in it but I don't have the room to stand it up on the engine stand at the minute lol.

I was going to say I've got an engine stand you could have borrowed but it sounds like its space you need. I could probably spare you a day next month if you want a spare pair of hands to rebuild and swap it

Thanks mate. Means alot. Ive got a couple of mates who are builders and they are gonna pop me up a nice 30 meter square garage/workshop this summer so should have the space soon enough. I need to order the rest of the tools I need for the job and I havnt even started looking at the list of bits I need to order to get an engine rebuild. It's only a block and a head I've got to add all the pulleys and belts and bits n bobs to it from my old engine.. Nightmare
