Looking for opinions on relocating oil filter housing on a 300 Tdi . Could a Mr.Gasket M 680 kit or similar be used, would there be an oil pressure loss ?
That's because some people don't understand the the theory behind a activated flexible pressure seal.I like to use a Punch or screwdriver and tap tap tap a nice hole in the bottom to allow it to drain/.
Personally don't see why many feel the need to crank filters on like ape's

Such seals occur in many parts on a vehicle, with no need to muscle the securing bolts/threads, but still the next punter that needs to remove the component to fix the seal leak has to half destroy the part to replace the seal.
I'd have to raid someone else's bin to get an empty ice cream container, the boss lady denies me the pleasures of ice cream, s'not allowed!Amen! - These super complex instructions ( ) are even written on most filters ..... but it appears that most people are unable to follow them
On the D1, I have found that a Walls 1800ml ice cream container * is just about perfect for sitting on the top of the diff case - undo the filter, drop it in said container ... and let the drips follow ....
* = Better if it's empty of Ice Cream first
There are so many simpler, less complicated and cheaper ways to stop the oil filter change mess, some have already been suggested, it's a job you only do every 5 or 10 K and even if you do spill a bit of oil on the diff housing, so what? I use that as an opportunity to make it all look shiney again. Every Disco Tdi ever made has its oil filter "down there", so there are a lot of us in the same boat.Thank's for the welcome and all the interest. As for removing the filter not a problem . I have chain type and clamp tool, also hammer, chisel and ring spanner, as a last resort! The reason for this question is last time I changed filter I unscrewed it no problem -- then let it fall it got jammed and oil everywhere! Mr. gasket oil filter relocation kit ( google it ! ) would seem to solve the problem. As for oil pressure I am not talking about how to read it, I am wondering about loss of pressure, due to using using hoses in this kit! A long winded reply hope it cover's all who showed an interest. Cheers.
