Hi Guys,

Am brand new owner of 1997 P38 2.5L DSE. She is due an annual oil change.
So although new to P38s, thought I could tackle this straight forward procedure myself.
Carefully researched for appropriate oil, oil filter and sump plug over the last week.

She is currently up on ramps.
Got underneath to drain the oil ... and am not sure where the sump plug is.
Can you please help?

Have been googling for an hour and looked through RAVE for clarification - most images seem to be for the petrol engines and indicated sump plug is underneath.
Found a plug on side of sump near bottom, not underneath as expected - is this it?

Also, my purchased sump plug is M12 and looks nothing like the one currently in situ which requires an allen key - any ideas?

Workshop manual mentions torque values for 2 different sump plugs - M12, M22 ... first I heard there were different plugs!

Know this is a very basic question, but can you please help this newbie?

Brilliant!!

You are quite literally a Saint
Many thanks ... off to cover myself in oil:D

They'll be 9 litres or more so make sure you have a big tub! Best to make sure the oil is warm first before draining. There are 2 different oil filters for the diesel depending on whether the filter housing is made of aluminium or plastic. Your is around the changeover year.

If you haven't downloaded RAVE then do so and go through the major service unless you're sure the previous owner has done it.
