My son's 200tdi is showing 140k . Has new turbo . Is consuming ( burning ) a lot of engine oil , a litre every 100 miles . No contaminate in the coolant . Before we rip it all apart anyone got any suggestions .Starts well , goes well . Seems to me its either burning the turbo's oil supply , there is blow back from worn bores , H/G is leaking or there is excessive crankcase oil pressure perhaps due to a breather problem . Am I missing anything ?

How are you measuring the consumption?
I ask as some engines dont like to be run at the dipstick max mark, and are happier with less oil at say 1/2 way between max and min.
The 200 do like to push their valve stem seals up the valve stem.

To add to the replies above, is it an original fit engine? There are variations of dipsticks and tubes and a mismatch of parts could see you trying to put too much oil in to it
A 200tdi shouldn't be remotely worn at 140k unless it's been seriously abused.

@Colin Haig , as @Kev12 plus...
  1. use a good quality 10w40 mineral or semi-synthetic oil - I use/prefer Millers 10w40, but Triplex 10w40 from A-Z is good too https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/triple-qx-semi-syn-engine-oil-10w-40-5ltr-521776011
  2. the 200tdi breather system is a poor design with no baffle in the rocker cover and the breather outlet easily pics up oil from the rockers, so the breather system is naturally oily.
  3. remove and clean the breather system and replace air filter if old/clogged.
  4. ignoring the dipstick level, drain the existing old oil including oil filter - fit new oil filter and measure in the new oil - once settled check against the dipstick, this will confirm if the right dipstick is fitted.
  5. add diesel fuel leaner to the tank - this has probably not been done and will clean through the engine system.
  6. now run and monitor the oil level over a 500-1000 mile test.
This will give you/your son a clean sheet of paper to work from - if problem exists continue fault finding as per conventional engine.

If the turbo is new I would start with the head. I'd expect fairly obvious blue smoke if it's burning that much oil. You sure its not a leak somewhere?
