All I want is the oil changed and a general look around. I have f£&@ all patience or the equipment to do what I want. If the oil plug wasn't so f£@@ing tight I would do it as explained in my first post, I would. So spare me the posh tart comment dick wad

why dont you buy a breaker bar and a decent 17mm socket , put vehicle jack between axle and chassis and lift body some ?youve then got the gear for next year then

I could do lots of things, but have better things to do right now. I have nowhere to do this besides on a public road so not keen. Don't wanna sound like I'm a dick, but will be my luck I cock up the thread on the sump and I don't want to do rhat

I did say unless you were  just making the point there known to try to rip you off, if you have a local garage thats got a good reputation give them a ring for a quote...

Yes, was just making a point, sorry!! They tried to substantiate the fee by "checking" things, but at £99 per hour labour that's bonkers. I'm really keen to DIY, but until I have the place to do it I'm gonna have to shell out in the meantime!

I think I would give it another go (sometimes you can get so ****ed off with a job walk away then come back and do it) but if it gets to the point where you feel something is gonna go wrong take it to a garage and let them pay the repair bill if they bugger it up, if they did strip the thread they would be able to repair it using a sump plug repair kit.

If I was a smaller guy I would, but I'm a giant and under the car is a small area so rather they have the fun. Hopefully they won't tighten too hard so I can play next year
