Do whatever you feel comfortable with.I used to run an old Guy wagon which would leak/ burn a gallon of oil a day so effectively it changed it own oil every 5 1/2 days. When the engine was rebuilt after 250k miles the engineer couldn't believe it because the crank was as new.;)

At one time when you didnt know what to do with all the free plastic bags you got when shopping you could use one round the oil filter to catch the oil spill in but now you have to pay for them not so many about when you want one, just sayin like.
@kds someone once asked where is the oil filler cap so i can add the oil?
the reply was ..dont worry on a land rover just empty the oil over it, it will leak in:D:D:D:D:D
merry xmas to all.

Yeah, I can see that works OK, I have done it on my 90, BUT the VM engine filter is mounted with the openings downwards, so when you lean over the wing to undo it you are actually looking at the base of the filter. Does make it easy to get at it but all the oil just falls out as you undo it.:(:(
