Ok... I read this thread before heading south and while I was down there I tore off my muffler... I know..youre thinking what does that have to do with radios.
I had a different muffler welded into the pipe and to do that they removed the battery connections, so when we got back in to the vehicle the radio was showing the dreaded "CODE 1" on the screen, and no number anywhere in the literature.

The landrover handbook covered three or four different types of radios and following the directions FOR THE RIGHT RADIO makes a big difference.

I rang the Landrover dealer and gave him the last 6 numbers of the chassis number and he got back to me with the 4 digit code. Mine is the type that has 1-6 buttons and has a single CD slot at the top.

I simply turned on the car, "CODE 1" appeared, and I pressed the appropriate 1-6 code buttons (ignoring what the screen said) and... the CD started playing. It was very simple and painless despite the day of worry that I would never hear music out of the thing after reading this thread..lol.

Hi James , u r so right about the way u put the code in!, it took me about an hour to work it out , but like with most things its easy when u know how ! ! ! ,im looking 4 a C.d.changer 4 my 2000 TD5 DISCO , But im having probs with leads , not sure if its pre wired ?it looks like it is but im not 100%sure !

u can also buy the adapter plugs for radios,as some disco's got diffent plugs for stereo's,

i believe the older ones poss up to 2000 had one square connecting plug and the newer ones have the 2 connecting plugs,

the adapters are available from halfords at around £15,

u could prob get one cheaper from ebay if u know for sure which one u want:)

please disregard the above reply as i am a COCK and didn't realise u were talking about cd changers:)
