Injector seals replaced by LR specialist trying to find out why the TD5 was a lazy starter
Eventually traced to battery/starter
Now starts fine
But
Oil level is rising, looks like diesel in the oil
 
Yeah beginning to lose the love for this Land Rover at the moment

Just tried changing the oil, drove 30 miles and the level has risen 1cm

Will call them in the morning, annoying thing is there was nothing wrong with the injectors before, l drove it about 800 miles and the oil level never moved.
 
Can it happen that the injector seals are replaced and it doesn’t work?
As in they don’t seal properly, and it has to be done again?
 
Injector seal replacement can quite easily not go right, just a bit of crud, seal the wrong way up [ some are one way ] crappy replacement ect.
Had one go on my Focus but at least fuel vapor just made a stinky explosive mixture under the bonnet as injectors are not in the valve/rockerbox.
 
Well, it’s back in this morning so let’s see what they say, just my luck it’ll need a cylinder head
 
I’ve never heard of this happening following the replacing of injector seals. It’s certainly one of the more easier jobs to do. I suggest to record your oil level once it’s completely cooled down. I would then consider draining the oil and testing it. Finally, replace the seals yourself.
 
Might be worth seeking a second opinion. However, check the oil when totally cold beforehand.
 
TBH l wouldn’t be confident taking on that job, l will have to trust the garage, although they’ve been good in the past.

lf it needs a new cylinder head, then the new central heating boiler will have to wait until next year.
 
I don't see how dodgy injector seals would impact diesel getting into the oil, a damaged injector might if it was sticking open but you'd notice this in the way the engine is running and what's coming out of the exhaust surely?
 
When injectors are fitted inside the rocker/valve box leaking injector seals will result in fuel mixing with the engine oil.
Lightning says there was no problem with rising oil level before garage changed the injector seals so one has to go from there with the investigation.

Td5 has several seals on the injectors as the fuel rail is internal in the head itself, most just have the copper one, but these also have seals for the fuel system.
 
Thinking it needs a new head is catastrophising a bit, seals and gaskets etc sure I doubt the whole head needs replacing

Though it is a possibility, it is highly unlikely that would arise out of the blue without any earlier symptoms. I would be more inclined to to think seals.
 
Well, it looks like the engine is OK, l checked the oil this morning and it was on maximum, did a further 35 miles today and the oil level is the same.

I will monitor it.
 
Yeah, me too, although l believe the later post 2002 were less prone to cylinder head cracking/porosity?
