Having done most things to mine, the best advice I can give if you are going to major ish work to the engine bay area is to remove the engine. So long as you have access to an engine hoist or similar it is a very simple engine to remove. Once the engine is out, you can give everything a proper going over and just do the whole job once. I started work on mine and did lots of bits and pieces but didnĀ“t bother taking the engine out - several weeks later the rear core plug started leaking so had to take the engine out anyway - should have just done it all in one go. Pretty much all the jobs on the disco 300tdi are do-able for a DIY mechanic - just take your time and keep your work area clean and organised. Might help to take pictures or notes of where everything goes just in case you have a big gap between removal and re-installation of the engine.

cheers mate just looking for a decent engineering firm now to do skiming etc. as i have no garage its weather permitting, still looking for a manual tho...

try this link it has all the info you need , i wouldnt worry over much about a pressure check ,any cracks will be visible on heads face or if in a port obvious by it been washed clean, only skim head if its bent or has damage to face, the rear core plug is the only one engine needs removal to get at, if you do one you may as well do all 5 (erc4996), they are prone to corrode if engine been run on weak or non anti freeze, allways check rad gets hot all over when back running and fit a new thermostat and brass plug to thermostat housing as its a good idea to remove regularly to checvk coolant system is actually full ,expansion tank level isnt necessarily a good guide
