its funny you mention mate as I was reading des hammils famous book last week, he reckons for race spec motors you do.

I am wondering do we not want to lightly hone the bores at least to restore some crosshatch? can this not be done at how with a 3 stone kit?

bore surface is more critical than a thou over size ,stone hone kit will do but you need slow drill and good timing
 
what grit would you recommend james?

I was hoping to find the bog brush type ones they use in the states but I can only find weeny ones here in the uk for caliper pots etc
 
thats what I want as there is less chance of buggering it up. where did you see a full size one mark?
 
how much oil is needed? on the machines its pouring oil but that could be expensive lol
