top pics andy. here's a piccy took monday, just after I had to back up 'cos the poxy silencer was grounding on the middle between the ruts. glad I did though, about 10 yards further on, the bottom of the ruts was liquid mud and dropped another 6 inches or so which would have left me high and dry. Broke the golden rule by going alone, but curiosity got the better of me.

Not as extreme as Andy's but Hindhead common greenlane, as shown in LROI magazine. Looked innocuous enough in the article, and did the first section ok

like the idea of a hippo firendly sluts outing though, if I could be considered to be an honourary sluts member, given I live in Kent.

Hippo did really well, but the exhaust back box didn't make it back - my fault tried to race a sport, and landed heavily, several times.

wow that silencer has pretty much had it. I've recently had that with my middle box where it's caught on the top of an incline. Haven't fixed it yet, will do it same time as the cat this weekend. Eventually i'm getting it lifted to avoid this, and i don't have this problem with the back box anyway as i've replaced it with something else that sits higher.

What was the sport that you tried to race?
 
I have a sneaky feeling there might be a lot more Hippoo friendly SLUTS trips coming up ;).
Ooooooo really??? :D:D:D I've just finished getting the underside clean from splashing in those puddles heh heh heh.... Even bought a Karcher for those awkward nooks and crannies!
 
I do... nothing quite as extreme as some of the pics here though - as I've only had the vehicle a month or so, would like it to last a little longer before I break something expensive! :)
 
We were on a 10 mile section of the old Paris Dakar route - last one to the Auberge etc.
The Sport was a very nice nearly new Range Rover Sport HSE TDV8.
I was working on the premise that above 55 the Sport lowered itself to road height.
Dave was known to drive with the "emergency Lift" button pressed but after a few miles the compressor cuts out to protect from overheating.
Unfortunately I took a wrong trun, had to double back and was flying to avoid paying for the drinks.
The sport was a surprise, really good off-road, amazing on the black stuff.

I'm watching it and will see what sort of price it goes up to.

What other sort of mods would i need to make my 1.8 fully submersible? Or at least enough to get through a deep ford or so. I'm happy modding the air intake for it to fit to a 1.8 so that won't be a problem.
 
Your FL will float and lose traction before it will need snorkel...ideally snorkel used maily for dusty areas...desert, quarry roads Crewe etc:)

Maybe save your engine if you were to get in too deep though.
 
Aye, a snorkel would be certainly be useful in Crewe, really dusty, just like on cowboy films! Shootouts every day of the week.

If it'll float before it'll need a snorkel i'll just need to bag myself a fat bint and take her off roading with me. That'll gimme traction back lol.

Might be good for looks as well tho! Not the fat bint, the snorkel!

Sure I can throw a fat bint in FOC....Did consider taking her wading through water once but was stopped by Birkenhead dock Authority...Somat to do with danger to shipping:):):)
 
Had the same trouble from her indoors, wasn't impressed when I suggested a snorkel - used 3 air filters on the one trip.
TD4 does float well, long before you swamp the engine the rear wheels are off the deck. Can imagine that the lighter 1.8 will float even earlier.
The older 2.0TDi that I had was better at deep wading - alternator was a lot higher up, and had a standard snorkel built in, this had a float that shut off the air intake in the wheel arch liner and used a smaller intake under the bonnet.
Dust was still a killer though.
Maybe I should trade the misses in, she's only 7 1/2 stone
