What sort of skid plates and the like do people run on their Freelander 1’s?

I’ve found a sump skid plate. Although if I’m honest it is the nose of the Freelander that seems to take the stick.

Are there any skid plates to protect the VCU? It seems quite vulnerable where it is.

Some of the sump guards rise up at the front with a hole cut out for the recovery point.

If you put too much protection on it acts like a sledge down hills when the wheels lift… we never worried of this we were caged in.

Rear diff just had a plate underneath to protect from rocks

Thanks. I can’t actually see much for sale. MuddyMods doesn’t seem to list much these days for the FL1.

I’ve found this sump guard:

I guess my question is. Is a sump guard really needed? It seems fairly well tucked up. I’ve found the Freelander tends to impact the ground with its nose more than the underside at the front, e.g.

I also said about the VCU as this happened on an obstacle that a Defender wouldn’t even have known was an obstacle.

You need the guard up a bit higher
Unsure if there are any photos of the Colin mc crea course opening freelander on the web. This was a m sport build 3 seater racer.
And yep it was quick(friend owners it for a bit I could not squeeze into the rear seat, which was central so you looked between driver & navigator.

And my full space frame racer the prop ran inboard

AJS list this one for the FL1, which is a comparable spec to the muddy mods one.

Probably worth messaging them to check though as the picture they have in the listing looks like an early FL2
